[Korean reaction] Poland Outraged by Zelensky’s ‘Blunt Words’, Threatens to Halt Arms Supply

by 2KCountries 2023. 9. 23.

Poland, once the most fervent supporter of Ukraine, announced its intent to halt weapon supplies to the country. On September 20th, Poland’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, stated in a televised address that they "will no longer supply weapons to Ukraine” attributing the decision to concerns about “arming our own nation”, alluding to potential threats from Russia. Despite past assistance, Poland's stance suggests a shift towards reinforcing its own military capabilities.

Did Zelensky Hint Poland is Secretly Aiding Russia?

Since the outbreak of the conflict, Poland stood firmly behind Ukraine. A recent contention arose over Ukraine's grain exports. With Russia's invasion closing Black Sea routes, Ukraine struggled to export grain to Middle East or Africa. The EU permitted Ukraine to transport grain through Poland and Hungary. This influx, however, led to plummeting agricultural prices in Eastern Europe, sparking dissatisfaction among farmers. In response, the EU restricted Ukrainian grain exports through five Eastern European countries, albeit permitting grain transit for exports outside Europe.

Although this measure ended on September 15, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia decided against resuming grain imports from Ukraine. This infuriated Ukraine, which reported Poland's restriction to the WTO. An inherent controversy exists since trade policy decisions rest with the EU Commission, not individual member states.

During his speech at the UN General Assembly on September 19, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, without naming countries, indirectly accused certain European neighbors of portraying support for Ukraine on the "political stage", yet clandestinely assisting Russia.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki giving a speech

Poland summoned the Ukrainian ambassador in Warsaw, expressing strong disapproval. Poland's unequivocal support for Ukraine is evident: Over 200 tanks were supplied; Poland was the first NATO member to supply fighters to Ukraine; most military equipment from other countries transits through Poland; and they have housed 1.6 million Ukrainian refugees, committing billions in aid.

In a subsequent TV appearance, PM Morawiecki criticized Ukraine for flooding the Polish market with grain without considering Polish farmers and alluded to utilizing advanced weaponry for Poland’s purposes.

The European countries, in general, stood united against Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Whether the recent Poland-Ukraine rift, triggered by grain restrictions and Zelensky's comments, will fade or deepen fractures in the anti-Russia front remains uncertain.

[Korean reaction]
--------------------

Zelensky takes help from other countries for granted and has serious issues with his attitude. It's unacceptable how he outright criticizes Poland, which has given him the most assistance.

The funny thing is, while doing that, he is silent on Western European countries that are genuinely colluding with Russia. Countries like Germany are still heavily importing Russian energy.

Coming from a comedian background, he's ignorant... he's just a good actor... he speaks well, and being hailed as a hero in many countries has made him lose touch with reality and speak recklessly these days..

Helping such people makes us see their ugly side. It's like saving someone from drowning and then they demand compensation and even sue you. Who would want to associate with such a person?"
