Inje-yangyang - Korea's longest road tunnel

A recently completed Inje-yangyang highway allows people living in Seoul to reach a popular destination on the East Sea in less than two hours. 

The Dongseo Expressway was open to the public in July and now people living in Gyeonggi Province can travel to Gangwon Province, East Hongcheon and Yangyang where are located east cost and beaches in one - two hours.

Inje-yangyang Tunnel is the longest in Korea and 11th in the World at 11 kilometers, is part of the highway.

This project was began in 2008 and it was spent about 2$ billion dollars on the construction of this project. 

The tunnel was designed as S shape to help drivers stay awake while passing through the long way. It also will reduce accident rate in 10 times. 

Lighting design in the form of flowers, clouds, water's wave and etc. in the tunnel was also planned to prevent accident occurrence which are also maintain driver's concentration on the road.  

 

In the emergency cases it is installed smoke and Heat Exhaust system which includes 6 fire ventilation mechanism which is going in 4 directions. 

To reduce damages smoke and heat exhaust system is designed in 4 directions. 

 In case of traffic accident that can happen in such long distance tunnel it is also designed and installed a cross-passage evacuation system in the distance of 160-200 m in 37 spots along the tunnel.
