[Korean reaction] US Urges Adherence to Commitment : "No Weapon Provision to Russia during Kim Jong-un’s Visit"

by 2KCountries 2023. 9. 12.

The US White House stressed on 11th (local time) in regard to the visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to Russia, "We urge North Korea to adhere to the public commitment not to provide or sell weapons to Russia."

In response to a query from Yonhap News about the Kim Jong-un’s visit to Russia and the North Korea-Russia summit, the White House National Security Council (NSC) issued a statement in a spokesperson's name expressing this stance.

The NSC stated, "As the US publicly warned, it is anticipated that discussions on weapon transactions between North Korea and Russia will continue during Kim Jong-un’s visit to Russia."

However, the NSC maintained a cautious stance, stating that they could not confirm the specific details of Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia reported in the media.

Previously, based on its own information, the US NSC had publicly mentioned the possibility of arms deals between North Korea and Russia, sending warnings to both countries.

John Kirby, NSC Strategic Communication Coordinator, revealed last month that negotiations on arms deals between North Korea and Russia are actively progressing, including exchanges of letters between Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Moreover, the NSC practically confirmed The New York Times' report on the possibility of the North Korea-Russia summit, expressing on the 4th that "we have information that anticipates the continuation of such dialogues, including high-level diplomatic contacts in Russia."

Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor

Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor, sent out a warning message in a briefing on the 5th that "they will pay a price in the international community" if North Korea supports Russia with weapons.

Despite these warnings from the US, all eyes are on how the US will respond if an actual arms deal is announced with Kim Jong-un ascending to Russia.

If it were during Moon Jae-in's term, they would have welcomed it with open arms.. Perhaps they would have blabbered nonsense about playing a bridging role in the North-Russia summit, right?

Look at the USA scrambling. They can't stop it even though they have sanctioned North Korea all this time. What will they do if North Korea sells weapons? Those economic sanctions were useless. The USA has lost its North Korea sanctions card. It is pathetic that Yoon Seok-yeol trusts this USA.

A tiny minority of extreme leftists and pro-North supporters, come to your senses~~ Is North Korea that good... Have you been to the honey pot in North Korea.. I just can't understand it.

Does the USA even have a way to sanction North Korea if it transfers weapons? .... It's not like they will lift the sanctions if they don't transfer weapons; of course, North Korea will transfer weapons and receive raw materials and military technology..."
